One Ball Stationary Drills Off The Wall Dribble: Stand in front of a wall. Hold a ball in your hand and then dribble it against the wall. Do the same for both hands. As you progress stand further and further back and dribble the ball. Finger Dribble: This is a great exercise for increasing strength in the fingers as well as grip for each finger. Start by dribbling the ball with your thumb and do this 10 times. Then move on to your index finger and do the same. Continue with all your fingers and move on to your other hand. Ball Slaps: Put a basketball on one hand then slap it over to your other hand quickly and do this repeatedly as quick as possible. It is important to limit the time the ball hits your fingers and also only use your fingers and wrists to move the ball. Circles: There are 4 types of Circles: Head, Waist, Legs, and Corkscrew. The first 3 you just circle the ball around what it says as fast as you can (i.e. waist- go as fast as you can around your waist.), but once you get all 3 of those down try the corkscrew. You go head, waist, legs, waist, and head without stopping. Try to do it both clockwise and counter clockwise. Confidence Bounce: Stand with your legs spread apart and hold the ball with both hands in front of you. Bounce it in between your legs, and then catch the ball behind you. Now bounce it back to the front. Do this as quickly as you can. Figure 8 No Dribble: Same thing as the circles except you go in a figure 8 around your legs. Figure 8 Dribble: Same as the figure 8 but you dribble low and fast. Front to back: Dribble the ball with one hand in a front to back motion. Do both hands. Between The Leg V Dribble: Go down on 1 knee then dribble the ball with both hands under your lead leg. Do both legs Spider Dribble: Stand with your legs spread apart; drop the ball in front of you. Now hit it with your right hand and then your left hand, then reach behind you and hit it with your right hand then left hand, then reach in front of you again and hit with your right hand then left hand, and then behind you again... Pretzel Drop: Spread your legs. Now take and hold the ball in between your legs with your right hand in front and left in back. Drop the ball, and then switch position of your hands without letting the ball hit the floor. Clap Hands Drill: This drill helps to develop quick hands. Place the ball against your body at waist level and drop it straight down. Clap your hands behind your back and reach quickly toward the floor to catch the ball before it hits the floor for the first time. If you cannot do this immediately, try some intermediate steps. After releasing the ball touch both hands to your front pockets and catch the ball. When you can do this, hit your sides then later your back pockets. Soon you will progress to the point when you can clap behind your back and catch the ball at knee level. (Remember: Do not throw the ball up. Let it drop straight down from your waist) One Ball Moving DrillsJogging Figure 8: No dribble, jog down the court going between your legs and return going backwards.Figure 8 walk: Dribble the ball down the court going between your legs as you walk. Opposite figure 8: Same as the figure 8 walk, but dribble the ball the opposite way between your legs. Backwards figure 8: Walk backward while dribbling the ball between your legs. Protection dribble: Dribble down the court or sidewalk, driveway, etc. protect the ball as you go. Dribble low to the ground and pretend you are protecting the ball against a defender. Do with left and right hands. Attack & Retreat: Take 2 hard dribbles forward, stop and take 2 retreat dribbles backwards, crossover to the other hand and repeat the process. Three Dribble Change of Direction (Zig-Zag Dribble): Start at one end, have the players dribble to the right at an angel and make a change of direction and repeat going left. Change of directions: cross over (below the knee), between the legs (push it through—don't lift the leg), behind the back (below the butt, low and quick), and reverse pivot dribble (pull it back with dribble hand and then switch hands to protect it).
